On 20th January, 1916, the 13th Essex battalion of 6 Brigade, 2nd Division, moved into the front line near the Givenchy brickworks close to La Bassée They were immediately faced by a heavy artillery bombardment during which John Lincoln was wounded, wounds from which he died later. |
